We're shaking out our wiggles and strengthening our trunks in today's CORE jelly.

PictureStreamlining Dolphin Kick
Swim
Getting our wiggles out in the pool.  We'll be strengthening the core and playing with the wave-like movement of butterfly.  Some of the stigma of the "most difficult" stroke can be removed when introduced at a young age!!  Fins will be used to increase momentum. 

All students will work on age/level appropriate skills.  Some of the things we will learn in order of difficulty are:
  • Beginning dolphin kick (Wiggles)
  • Assisted Dolphin Dives
  • Butterfly Kick with streamlining
  • Treading with dolphin kick
  • Butterfly Arms
  • Full Butterfly Stroke with breathing
  • Butterfly Drills and Technique improvement
  • Incorporating the dolphin kick into Starts & Turns


Climb
Climbers will be building core strength and learning about conditioning.  Each class will cover age/level appropriate skills.  Class time will be split between top rope, bouldering, and floor exercises. 
  • Identifying & using Pinch holds
  • Recognizing & climbing on Vertical walls
  • Identifying your Core
  • Climbing with a "Jelly Belly" vs "Tight Core"
  • Core Strengthening exercises 
  • Choosing Body Positions that push the hips into the wall
  • Perseverance

Yoga
We will be discussing how our core values shape us as we shape our core muscles.  A strong core can make us more resilient physically and emotionally!
  • Core Virtues Overview including: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship
  • Mindful Listening
  • Sitting tall & strong
  • Core Strengthening Poses: boat, side plank, cobra, four-limbed staff, camel, chair, crescent lunge
